Despite all the happy talk emerging from the general direction of Downing Street about the recession coming to an end, the reality for security professionals is that budgets are being squeezed as tightly as ever. All too often - yes even within the NHS – a man with a nice suit but no real concept of the task facing the IT administrator will bang his fist on the table and demand that budgets are frozen, savings are made, and that this can be done because things are secure enough.
The man with the nice suit is wrong, of course, and like everybody who thinks that cutting corners with security equates to a quick and dirty return, he could soon find himself being bitten somewhere only a qualified clinician should get to see.
