How secure is Vista?

It had to happen. It was inevitable. I knew it was going to happen. You knew it was going to happen. We all knew it was going to happen. After all, this might well be ‘the most secure OS ever’ from Microsoft, but a security flaw was never going to be that long coming. But what has surprised me is that they should start to come quite so quickly considering the sheer amount of time and sheer volume of Beta testers that have been poking around looking for exactly such flaws.

So far there has been a Russian programmer who has revealed a flaw that can increase user privileges on Vista, as well as older versions of Windows it has to be said. And now, during the seasonal holidays, a security company out of Silicon Valley called Determina has revealed that it’s reported a further five vulnerabilities to Microsoft. Of course, the Seattle based software giant is ‘looking into’ the claims and has countered with a statement saying that it has not ‘observed any public exploitation’ based upon the flaws. So that’s OK then. Not.
