Acting the part: time to ditch layers when thinking cloud

It's time to re-examine our thinking about cloud. We have to stop thinking in simplistic terms as it's this sloppy terminology that lies at the heart of so many security problems. So, let's get this straight: the cloud is not a fluffy lump of virtual technology holding all your data; it's actually comprises multiple layers, each with its own function. Until you have a handle on what each of these is, what they do and how they interact with each other then, sorry to say, your security strategy is going to remain problematical.
